Welcome to the National Data Portal of the Dutch government: data.overheid.nl. On this portal you find (open) data published by the Dutch government.

  • Over a 150 government organizations have already published data on data.overheid.nl.
  • Almost all data is updated every night.
  • The DCAT standard is used as a metadata standard to exchange data.
  • Datasets are published via CKAN.

The portal is maintained by the Netherlands Publication office on behalf of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations.

Data.overheid.nl is a register and offers support in opening and re-using open data of the Dutch government. More information on the open data policy of the Dutch Government can be found here (in Dutch). 

Data.overheid.nl assists government organizations in opening en publishing available data. We also support re-users in finding specific datasets. If certain data is not (yet) open available, it is possible to do a data request. 

 

Data Portal

The data.overheid.nl team is responsible for part of the implementation of the policy surrounding the Open Government Act (Woo): making published datasets findable and offering support to government organizations in opening data. The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations strives for optimal quality of data. To ensure quality, the following requirements and principles have been drawn up.

Requirements

  • For a dataset, all mandatory fields of the DCAT-AP-NL are correctly filled in.
  • A dataset includes at least one distribution with working links or a webservice link.
  • The data owner of a dataset is up-to-date and known to data.overheid.nl.

Principles

  • License information is always clear, "license unknown" should only be used temporarily. 
  • The "more information" link is present and working (no 404 or irrelevant information).
  • Data format of the distribution(s) corresponds to the specified link to the source of the data.
  • The interpretation of the roles of data owner, data provider and catalog management correspond to the actual situation.

Each dataset must at least meet the above requirements. During regular checks or due to report of a re-user it may appear that a dataset does not meet the minimum requirements. The following procedure takes effect:

  • data.overheid.nl contactst the data owner or data provider;
  • if the dataset information still does not meet the requirements after 21 working days after the report, the dataset will be depublished; the dataset can no longer be found on data.overheid.nl;
  • as soon as the dataset meets the requirements again, the dataset will be published again.
