Description

This dataset contains metadata documenting the main non-climatic changes that may affect an observational record from a weather station. The dataset covers KNMI automatic weather stations (AWS), a selection of KNMI precipitation stations, and historical stations/series (observations that were mostly carried out by private individuals before the establishment of KNMI). The dataset has been updated up to approximately 2015. The metadata describes, in timeline form, among other things, major station relocations, sensors and measurement setups used, the transition from manual to automatic observations, and changes in observing practices. This information supports the interpretation of possible breaks or inhomogeneities in the time series and is important for homogenisation, trend analysis, and the correct interpretation of long-term climate data, as it helps distinguish between climate signals and measurement artifacts.

The data is available using the link in supplemental information, the HTML files in the HTML_files folder, and via JSON files.
